What I found was purpose.
And what I found was people who cared about the people in their community.
And so what I think we do to address this concept of the wrong side of the tracks is we have a little altar call as a community, and we say, listen, why are we categorizing?
Why are we putting this label on a whole side of town?
Why are we saying this is the wrong side of the tracks?
What have you experienced over here that will cause you to categorize a whole community in that way?
Are there challenges due to perpetual disinvestment, due to systemic racism?
Due to all of the things that lead to lack of resources, that leads to scarcity, that leads to survivalism?
Yes, yes and yes.
But even in the midst of that, as we do things like the Soul of Southside Festival, and we give face and we give place and we speak and we affirm value here, what we're seeing now is value happening.
