In the Grass, On the Reef
Testing the Ecology of Fear
Special | 28m 30s
FSU Ecologists look at how the fear of being eaten may make healthier coastal ecosystems.
Predators rule in coastal salt marshes and oyster reefs. They do so by consuming animals such as mud crabs which, if left unchecked, would decimate oyster reefs. But could the mere presence of predators scare smaller animals into beneficial behaviors? And how would we benefit from this ecology of fear?
