Predators rule in coastal salt marshes and oyster reefs. They do so by consuming animals such as mud crabs which, if left unchecked, would decimate oyster reefs. But could the mere presence of predators scare smaller animals into beneficial behaviors? And how would we benefit from this ecology of fear?
